The Effect of Planning in L2 Spanish Oral Narratives
نویسنده
چکیده
This study reports on an experiment in which a group of 14 American learners of Spanish as a foreign language performed two monologic production tasks with and without time for planning. Several hypotheses were tested concerning language complexity, grammatical accuracy, lexical complexity, and degree of fluency. As predicted, it was found that learners produced more complex, but not more accurate, language when given planning time. The results support the claim that planning is a task condition that can be manipulated in second language (SL) tasks so as to foster more developed interlanguage (IL) use in the short term.

Role of L1 and L2 in the Organization of Iranian EFL Lived Narratives
People are constrained by their culture and social life when telling stories. A second language learner then cannot be expected to tell stories in the target language without cross-cultural effects that influence the way of narration. The present study examined the role of the first language (L1) and second language (L2) in the organization of narratives by focusing on Persian speakers’ and EFL...
متن کاملThe Effect of Length of Pre-task Planning Time on Discourse-analytic Measures and Analytic Ratings in L2 Written Narratives
The favorable gains gleaned from the provision of pre-task planning time (PTP) have struck a chord with SLA researchers as they try to manipulate task features to promote language production and development. In a similar vein, the present study is a two-fold attempt to first compare the effect of the length of pre-task planning time on discourse-analytic measures in narrative written production...
متن کاملTask Condition and L2 oral Performance: Investigating the Combined Effects of Online Planning and Immediacy
Research evidence reported to date demonstrates the differential effects of manipulating second language (L2) task conditions on the resultant production as measured in terms of complexity, accuracy, and fluency. The present study was aimed at adding to the available body of findings by exploring the synergistic effects of two task condition variables, namely online planning and immediacy (± He...

The current study, setting a two-fold goal, attempted to see whether the preemptive focus on form (FonF) under either planned or unplanned conditions could contribute to increasing lexical diversity in written narratives and, second, to find whether there was a trade-off between the lexical diversity and accuracy. To this end, 32 beginner learners were selected following a Quick Oxford Placemen...
متن کاملThe Effect of Story Mapping on Writing Performance of Iranian EFL Learners
Although story mapping strategy has been shown to be beneficial in many reading comprehension classes, the benefits of this technique have not been thoroughly investigated in L2 writing research. The small number of previous studies (e.g., Li, 2007; Brunner, 2010) have found the potential benefits of using story mapping strategy on students’ writing performance, but they did not focus on differ...
